A vital inflexion point in retailing is occurring right now. How are you ...........?

EBay's CEO believes an inflexion point in retailing is occurring. Consider:
- eBay expects to see $10bn in mobile transaction sales in 2012, more than double 2011 figures
- PayPal's new mobile Point of Sale (POS) payment service is being accepted by all sorts of business because they don't have to install new terminals
- Africans subsisting on $2 or less per day are making mobile payments with their friend's mobile
- all the major card schemes and other players such as Google, have electronic wallets launched/in development
- all the next generation of smart phones will have Near Field Communication (NFC) to communicate with POS terminals
- Apple's new phone, to be launched in Autumn, will definitely have NFC plus a Passbook app enabling loyalty cards, airport boarding passes and cinema tickets to be viewed in a wallet-style display on screen, but no mention of a mobile wallet....... YET
- Apple's iTunes has 400 million registered credit card accounts (200 million active). Amazon has as many registered credit card accounts, if not more, which is bigger than most banks.
We are definitely at an inflexion point in retailing, not just for C2B retailing but also for B2B retailing. The way we do business is being transformed by the new mobile technology:
- trading platforms are being transformed by using smart-phones to scan documents
- there are now stores with no cash registers
- the virtual corporate treasury department is almost here.
The only question is: 'How will your company react to and cope with the transformation that mobiles - phones and tablets - are bringing? It is coming sooner than you think........ Good luck.
