All you need to know about VAT rate changes in Europe for 2015 and in rest of world

Meridian, the VAT tax collection specialists, have just published the Spring edition of their ‘VAT Trends Magazine Issue 13’ for Europe which reports on the major issues and developments in VAT in Europe. including: per country developments, how the EU commission has rejected excluding digital micro businesses from the new VAT rule, etc. This issue includes a list of the VAT rate changes in Europe in 2015:
General changes
- Czech Republic: a new second reduced VAT rate 10%.
- Iceland: standard VAT rate has decreased from 25.5% to 24%. The reduced VAT rate has increased from 7% to 11%.
- Luxembourg: standard VAT rate has increased from 15% to 17% and the reduced VAT rates have both increased 2% to 8% and 14%.The super- reduced VAT rate of 3 % remains unchanged.
VAT rate changes in relation to specific services/ goods which being ammended in 2015:
- France: admission to sporting events has decreased from 10% to 5.5%.
- Spain: Health products and medical equipment, medicinal substances and intermediate products have increased from 4% to 21%.
- Italy: E- books* have been reduced from 22% to 4%.
- Germany: Audio-books* have been reduced from 19% to 4%.
- Malta: E- books* have been reduced from 18% to 5%.
(*This change relates to the supply of audio/e books on physical carrier media i.e. CDs, DVDs, SD-Cards, USB drives and similar media. )
