Bill Collection via mobile: Severn Trent Water first utility to use Barclays Pingit

Severn Trent Water in the UK is the first utility to offer their non Direct Debit customers the option to pay their bills using Barclays Pingit. The app is free to use and is a simple and secure way to pay bills wherever and whenever, so long as customers have their bill, a mobile phone or tablet and a UK bank account. Customers simply scan the QR code that is on their bill via the Barclays Pingit app to make a payment.

This new service is part of a series of new technology launches from Severn Trent Water to make it easier for customers to deal with them. Angela Hunter-Dobson, director of customer services for Severn Trent said "Easy access to multiple channels that are effortless to use is a non-negotiable requirement for today's consumer. In deploying Pingit, we are offering greater choice by introducing an innovative yet straightforward payment facility to our increasingly mobile customer base."

The keys to getting paid are: 1) the customer has the monies, 2) they are willing/inclined to pay, and 3) billers making it as easy to pay as possible - this is where additional solutions, such as Pingit fit. BUT remember they cannot overcome the lack of monies or willingness to pay.
