Guide to untangling the regulatory jungle
by Kylene Casanova
The Corporate Treasurers Council (CTC), run by the Association for Financial Professionals (AFP) in the US, has issued a guide on Effective Compliance with Global Regulations.
The guide, which is supported by Thomson Reuters, aims to help treasurers prioritise their responses to a range of current and planned regulatory changes. It focuses on four key areas of regulation:
- anti-bribery and corruption;
- anti-terrorist financing and anti-money laundering;
- tax evasion and avoidance; and
- strengthening the financial system.
It covers topics such as how to track compliance with each requirement, managing regulations in different jurisdictions that cover the same activities, as well as how to use regulatory change as a catalyst for evolving the treasury department.
The guide focuses on US regulation but also covers some of the key changes around the world, such as Dodd-Frank, EMIR and the US and EU regulators’ respective approaches to risk management in the derivatives markets.
Effective Compliance with Global Regulations is free to CTC members, while an executive summary can be downloaded from the AFP website here.
