More than 50% of listed companies using IFRS
by Kylene Casanova
More than 25,000 of the approximately 48,000 domestic listed companies on the world's 85 major securities exchanges use International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), according to analysis by the IFRS Foundation. According to the IFRS Foundation and the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB), this data reflects “a reasonable—though not 100 per cent precise” estimate of the number of listed companies using IFRS globally.
The majority – more than 80 per cent – of those that don't use IFRS are listed in China, India, Japan, and the United States.
The data also shows that, of the approximately 2,500 foreign listed companies on those 85 major securities exchanges, there are more than 1,000 companies using IFRS.
The analysis is based on data from IFRS jurisdiction profiles and from the World Federation of Exchanges and the Federation of European and Asian Stock Exchanges.
