United States Postal Service Network rationalisation increases advantage of remittance mail over fir

In the USA cheques are on the decline, but they are not going to disappear any time soon. USPS's rationalisation of their network as mail volume and revenues continue to decline will accentuate the difference between remittance mail and first-class mail according to Phoenix-Hecht.

When the network changes are complete in early 2013, overnight delivery will be completely eliminated, while overnight remittance delivery will be preserved. Phoenix-Hecht believe: "Because the outbound mail processing window is not changing, lockboxes will continue to receive origination mail processed by their receiving plant either late evening the same day it was mailed or early the following morning. This is a huge advantage for lockbox mail over regular first-class mail, which, after Phase 2, will not be delivered until two days after mailing."

Even in the digital age, remittance delivery still affects cash flow. The USPS network changes can only increase lockboxes share of the US collections. In the US eliminating posting of remittances by first-class post is a must.
