ESAs debate consumer protection in financial services
by Kylene Casanova
The Joint ESAs Consumer Protection Day is taking place today, with the Joint Committee of the European Supervisory Authorities (ESAs) holding its fourth such event in Paris.
The discussions in Paris are being streamed live here and the event aims to promote an exchange of views related to consumer protection within financial services, involving speakers representing the regulators, consumer representatives and the finance industry.
The three ESAs are: the European Banking Authority (EBA), the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) and EIOPA.
The keynote speech at the conference is being given by Olivier Guersent, the European Commission's Director General for Financial Stability, Financial Services and Capital Markets Union.
The conference consists of three panel discussions on:
- A truly European market for retail financial services;
- Big Data in the financial sector; and
- The supervision of consumer protection requirements in the EU: the expectations towards the ESAs in respect of product oversight and governance, remuneration, and PRIIPs.
