by Kylene Casanova
E-invoicing in Europe has risen by 27 per cent in past year, with more than 1.25 billion e-invoices processed, industry figures show.
E-invoicing breaks through 1 billion mark
Statistics from members of the European E-Invoicing Service Providers Association (EESPA), which are based on a set of survey results completed in July 2016, show that 1,252 million electronic invoices were issued and delivered in 2015, a rise of 27 per cent compared to 2014.
The figures include invoices between business, consumers and governments (B2B, B2C and B2G). Volumes in the previous two years were 985 million in 2014 and 840 million in 2013.
B2C is fastest growing sector
The e-invoicing market is seeing rapid growth and the survey commissioned by the EESPA aims to monitor and support the market. The survey refers to numbers of transactions.
A breakdown of the survey data, shown in the table below, indicates that direct B2B and B2G made up the bulk of e-invoices in 2015. However, the fastest-growing sector was direct B2C e-invoices, which grew by about 66 per cent compared to 2014.
