Steve Jobs died one year ago today. He taught the doubting world, even Citi, that technology alone i

First, let me say that, although I have been an Apple devotee for 25 years - I was the proud owner of the 7th Mac in the UK, I would have been scared stiff of Steve Jobs. He destroyed people in a sentence, but he also said some fabulous things. One of my favourites is: 'It is in Apple's DNA that technology alone is not enough. It is technology married with liberal arts and married with the humanities that yield us the results that make our heart sing.'

The world really does get this now, even in cash and treasury management systems and services. Last week, I saw a demo of an almost finished version of a new trade and cash management tablet based service from Citi. It has Steve Jobs written all over it: elegant graphics, clear really useful charts displaying masses of data simply and beautifully, and, of course, there was no user guide - it was obvious how to use it. Just lovely, didn’t make my heart sing, but it was close.

If he was alive today, Steve would still have cut people down to size, e.g. instead of congratulating Citi for being the first to introduce an electronic ATM receipt (20 September Press Release) he would have said something like: 'What took you so long, that is f.....g obvious.' The fact that few others have worked it out wouldn’t have counted.

I miss him, just like millions of others.
